Aspekte sind dabei besonders

cherzahlen zeigen auch in Inter-

net-Zeiten: Menschen wollen Men-

schen treffen. Menschen wollen

Das alles zusammen macht die be-

sondere photokina-Stimmung aus.

Der zweite Aspekt: Der sehr hohe

Anteil an jungen Menschen un-

ter den Besuchern der photokina

2010. Das zeigt, dass die Fotograﬁe

nichts von ihrer Faszination verlo-

ren hat.

The sun has been shining the past

few days over the photokina 2010:

fantastic products, appealing ima-

ges, positive retail market signs,

and innovative strategies for the

future. Two aspects are especially

interesting though. First, the increa-

sing number of visitors shows that,

even in the days of the Internet, peo-

ple want to be among other people.

People want to touch and test pro-

ducts. Together, this is what creates

photokina’s special atmosphere.

The second interesting aspect is the

high number of young visitors to the

photokina 2010. This shows that

photography has not lost its fasci-

nation.

Enjoy this day at the photokina in

Colgone.

an anderen visuellen Künsten

wie der Malerei ist das kein Alter,

dafür war ihr Werdegang umso

bewegter. Im Schnelldurchlauf:

Der anfänglichen Begeisterung

über das neue Zaubermedium

folgt die Ernüchterung. Vor al-

lem die Malerei ist zunächst

wenig angetan: Sie muss ihre

dokumentarischen Aufgaben

an die weitaus abbildungstreu-

Fortan gilt sie als Handwerk,

to other visual arts, like painting,

this is minor, but its evolution was

all the more lively. In short: The

initial enthusiasm for the new

magic medium is followed by so-

bering consequences. Especially

painting is somewhat affected in

the beginning: it has to yield its

documentary tasks to the far more

best a mechanical art. Pictorially,

seeking to free itself from its self-

incurred infancy, it adopts a pain-

terly style. In the 20

century, it

alternately propagates a subjec-

tive, then an objective view and

in the end, with media-analytic

and self-referencing methods, trig-

gers ponderings about itself. It

has long ceased to be a banal

cousin of painting and it has ﬁ-

nally arrived in the art market.

But what it is by its nature, what

it can and should create beyond

recording reality, has not been

deﬁned conclusively to this day.

tion and a message, an image-

conveying process and an infor-
